Journey from Guwahati into Meghalaya’s hills for waterfalls, caves, viewpoints, villages and the Double-Decker Living Root Bridge at Nongriat. This itinerary includes Shillong, Cherrapunjee, Mawlynnong, Dawki and a return through the Jowai region.

Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1: Guwahati Airport to Shillong

Arrive at Guwahati Airport and drive to Shillong. Stop at Umiam Lake on the way. Depending on flight arrival time and opening hours, visit Ward’s Lake or the Don Bosco Museum. Enjoy an evening walk around Police Bazaar. Overnight in Shillong.

Day 2: Shillong to Cherrapunjee (Sohra)

Travel towards Cherrapunjee, with possible stops at Shillong Peak, Elephant Falls and Mawkdok Dympep Viewpoint. After reaching the Sohra area, visit a selection of Nohkalikai Falls, Mawsmai Cave, Seven Sisters Falls and Arwah Cave. The number of stops depends on time and local conditions. Overnight in Cherrapunjee.

Day 3: Cherrapunjee waterfalls circuit

Explore selected nature attractions around Cherrapunjee, such as Wei Sawdong Falls, Prut Falls, Lyngksiar Falls and the Garden of Caves. Some sites involve steps or uneven approaches and may be inaccessible during heavy rain. Overnight in Cherrapunjee.

Day 4: Nongriat Double-Decker Living Root Bridge trek

Start early for the trek to Nongriat village and its Double-Decker Living Root Bridge. Visit the Blue Lagoon if conditions and fitness allow. Rainbow Falls is an optional onward trek requiring additional time and effort. Return to Cherrapunjee for the night.

Day 5: Cherrapunjee to Mawlynnong and Dawki

Travel to Mawlynnong, with possible visits to the Riwai Living Root Bridge and a local viewpoint. Continue to Dawki and the Umngot River. Boating may be arranged if operators are running and river conditions are suitable. Overnight in the Dawki area.

Day 6: Dawki to Jowai region and Guwahati drop-off

Begin the return journey via the Jowai region. Visit Krang Suri Falls if time and access permit. Phe Phe Falls is an additional stop for travellers comfortable with the approach walk, provided enough time remains. Continue to Guwahati for your agreed drop-off. No overnight stay is included on Day 6.

• The Rainbow Falls extension is optional and should be decided according to fitness, daylight and trail conditions.
• Dawki boating, waterfall access and cave visits depend on weather and local operations.
• The famous clear-water appearance of the Umngot River varies by season and should not be guaranteed.
• Transport, guides, entry fees, boating charges, inclusions, exclusions and the final MAP meals should be specified in the written quotation.
• Confirm the Day 6 Guwahati arrival time before booking a flight that evening.
