Travel from Guwahati into the hills of Meghalaya for a journey through Shillong, Cherrapunjee, Mawlynnong, Dawki and the Jowai region. This itinerary brings together waterfalls, viewpoints, caves, living root bridges and local experiences. The order of stops can be adjusted around your arrival time, departure time, weather and preferred pace.

Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1: Guwahati arrival → Shillong

Arrive at Guwahati Airport and drive towards Shillong. Stop at Umiam Lake on the way. Depending on your arrival time, visit Ward’s Lake or the Don Bosco Museum, then enjoy an evening stroll around Police Bazaar. Overnight in Shillong.

Day 2: Shillong → Cherrapunjee (Sohra)

Continue towards Cherrapunjee. Suggested stops include Elephant Falls, Mawkdok Dympep Viewpoint, Nohkalikai Falls, Mawsmai Cave, Seven Sisters Falls and Arwah Cave. The final selection will depend on time, opening hours and local conditions. Overnight in Cherrapunjee.

Day 3: Cherrapunjee waterfalls circuit

Explore a selection of the area’s waterfalls and nature attractions, such as Wei Sawdong Falls, Prut Falls, Lyngksiar Falls and the Garden of Caves. Some locations involve walking, steep approaches or restricted access during heavy rain. Overnight in Cherrapunjee.

Day 4: Nongriat Double-Decker Living Root Bridge trek

Start early for the trek from the Tyrna area to Nongriat village and the Double-Decker Living Root Bridge. Continue to the Blue Lagoon if conditions and fitness allow. Rainbow Falls is an additional, more demanding extension and should be treated as optional. Return and stay overnight in Cherrapunjee.

Day 5: Cherrapunjee → Mawlynnong → Dawki

Travel towards Mawlynnong and visit the village, the nearby Riwai Living Root Bridge and a local viewpoint where accessible. Continue to Dawki and the Umngot River. Boating may be arranged when local operators are running and river conditions are suitable. Overnight in the Dawki area.

Day 6: Dawki → Jowai region → Guwahati

Travel via the Jowai region, with a possible stop at Krang Suri Falls. Phe Phe Falls can be considered if the group is comfortable with the additional walk and sufficient time remains. Continue to Guwahati for the night.

Day 7: Guwahati sightseeing and airport drop

Depending on your flight time, visit Maa Kamakhya Temple and other suitable city attractions before the airport transfer. Temple visits and sightseeing are subject to opening hours, queues and the time available. Tour concludes at Guwahati Airport.

• Waterfall access, caves, boating and trekking depend on weather and local operating conditions.
• The Nongriat trek is physically demanding and involves a long descent and climb. Rainbow Falls requires additional trekking.
• The transparent-water appearance often associated with Dawki should not be promised for a monsoon departure.
